Bipolar Disorder Help and Treatments

Many people choose to take medication prescribed by their GP to tackle the problem of Bipolar Symptoms. Alternatively many people choose to take a more natural approach, a less harmful and less addictive path to ease their worries.

A better structure to your lifestyle is vital to coping with being Bipolar. A routine can help enourmously, one that involves regular excercise and a healty diet.

It always helps if you have a family member, loved one or friend whom you trust and you can confide in them that you are bipolar. They will be able to spot when you are experiencing either a manic episode or depressive phase and inform you so.

It will most likely be difficult for you to accept that they are correct but many bipolar people say that if you write down on a piece of paper a gentle reminder when you are of sound mind that when comes the time when this other person tells you that you are in a manic depressive phase you must TRUST in their judgement and try your best to recognise that even though you perhaps do not feel any different at that point in time - you more than likely ARE, you are then in a position to carry out the next phase - coping, treating and living with these Bipolar Symptoms - treatment begins with accepting your predicament.

Meditation in Bipolar Treatment

A more mindful approach to the decisions you make is the best form of treatment for the symptoms of bipolar. Meditation is fantastic for living with a multitude of ails that come our way each and every day. There are many many forms of medititation but the most simplest way to think of it is 'become more mindful about everything meditationyou do - focus upon it and block other things out'. As the author of this website this is my own personal philosophy but it seems right. I have read dozens of books about meditation and have been involved for around 20 years and I would say it is the No.1 thing that has helped with my own bipolar symptoms and the best method I can recommend to yourself.

My own preferred method is simply to watch your breath:- sit still, breath normally and focus on upon the air as it passes in your nose or mouth and 'watch' the air travel inside your body and then naturally exhale again whilst watching it come out. THAT'S IT - SIMPLE.

Of course you will find this very basic method explained in lots of complicated detail on other websites, in books and other places, but this truly is all you need know.

A useful piece of information here is to know that your mind is 'like a chattering monkey'. Thoughts will be manic, they seem to have a life of their own and will come and go fo their own accord. Let them. The trick is to 'see' these thoughts without getting caught up in them, don't be annoyed with yourself if you manage to start to follow a thought, just come back to your breath again and accept it - simple. In time and after a few sessions you will find your mind starts to focus more readily.

I want to tell you a piece of information that may be outside the scope of this website but I believe is vital to a more spiritual life and way of coping with living with bipolar. You may agree or disagree, it doesn't matter:-

When you meditate you realise that thoughts come and go of their own accord. THOUGHTS ARE NOT REAL, YOUR BODY MAKES THEM SO. Your body will latch on to certain thoughts and a biological process will give them significance.

In fact a thought that says, "I am an elephant" is no more real than "I am a human being", what makes them different is what you believe and what you believe is made up of your life experience and if your life experience has been lived as a bipolar person then you must try to only latch onto the thoughts which seem postive and seem to make sense - use your common sense.

If you recognise a thought as being a symptom of your bipolar disorder then either disregard it or ask yourself some basic questions about it. Strip it down, what if? why do I believe this to be true? what would happen if I did or didn't do this thing? Get to the root cause and see something that you believe in it's true light - you may uncover some of your lifelong beliefs to be nothing more than further symptoms of bipolar.

I see this as the most valuable asset in your toolbox to battle the sympoms of bipolar and the treatment of it.
